Plenty of volleyball at Iowa-Grant Invite

Iowa-Grant, Mineral Point, Dodgeville and Highland tested their skills in the Iowa-Grant volleyball invite Saturday.
Following are the wraps from the teams.
MINERAL POINT
We started off the beginning of the day with a very strong Seneca team, the team that ended up winning the IG tournament. We weren't quite awake to put up much of an offense against a team of this caliber, so they were able to sweep us quite easily 9-25 and 7-25.
In the next game we played New Glarus but changed up the starting line-up a bit. The girls came fired up and ready to play. We were able to win 25-21 and 25-17.
Next up was Dodgeville, a strong team that we had to battle with to get into the upper bracket once pool play was completed. Dodgeville got the first game from us 17-25, but the girls really wanted this win, so battled back and won 25-13. That put us into the third game, winner of this match was able to advance to the upper bracket. The girls were able to hang on and fight for a 15-9 win. Once pool play was completed we had about one hour of downtime to eat and relax. Relax our girls did. They decided not to show up until the second match against IG.
Game one we lost 11-25, but game two we were able to get 25-19. That put us into the third match again and we just ran out of gas and lost 9-15. After a battle like that, it was really hard for the girls to find any more energy from a long, hot day of volleyball. We ended up taking fourth place overall after losing to Belleville 15-25 and 16-25.
Scores for the Pointers:
Seneca 25-9, 25-7 (loss)
New Glarus 21-25, 17-25 (win)
Dodgeville 25-17, 13-25, 9-15 (win)
IG 25-11, 19-25, 15-9 (loss)
Belleville 15-25, 16-25 (loss)
Kill leaders of the day were Lauren May 20, Kyla Lindsey 17, Malorie Johnson 13
Assists: McKenna Reichling 25 and Kaitlyn Kinch with 13
Digs: Alayna McCarville with 35

IOWA-GRANT WRAP
The Panthers finished in second place overall with the championship going to Seneca.
Overall stat leaders:
Kills - Katie (32), Olivia (25), & Shae (24)
Blocks - Shae (6), Olivia (5)
Aces - Olivia (9), Katie (6), Hazel Klosterman (5)
Digs - Hero Klosterman (70)
Assists - Kendall P. (93), Hazel K. (21)

"Going 3-0 in pool play was a very welcome surprise of our tourney on Saturday," said coach Marla Simon. " I think overall we had some really strong serving all day with Olivia Liddicoat really being more consistent then she has been with her serving."
"I think our serving is what really dictated our wins over Highland and Portage," Simon added. "And, then we were able to get a nice offense going in the Portage match and parts of our Belleville match. Katie had 9 kills and 11 kills in both matches respectively. Kendall Peterson had 36 assists to fuel that offense. Hero Klosterman led with 20 digs."
"In crossover play we started with Mineral Point and had an easy first set winning 25-11, dropped the second set for some reason, and then dominated again with good serving the third set winning 15-9. Olivia Liddicoat led with 11 kills, while Katie and Shae had 9 and 8. Going into the final match we went with Hazel Klosterman to set as Kendall was having some back issues. She did a nice job for us but we couldn't find that extra "umpf" in the championship match against Seneca. They were a very nice team, with good middle hitting and very good defense. Overall it was a good day to go 4-1, and finish second.  I was pleased with our finish and hopefully it prepares us going into our matches. With the win over Mineral Point, I was able to get my 200th career coaching win."
HIGHLAND WRAP
At Iowa-Grant, they beat New Glarus and Portage, but lost to Iowa-Grant, Belleville and Dodgeville.
"We just didn't move well and play well as a team overall," Wineskli pointed out.
