Panthers control ball, game and Bulldogs

Iowa-Grant had it most of the game while Boscobel did not.
"It" would be the football as the Panthers ran 28 more plays on the ground than the Bulldogs, outgaining the 277 to 34 and rolling to a 48-0 win in the second week of SWAL play. The Panthers improved to 1-1 in conference play and Boscobel fell to 0-2.
Brady Peat and Clayton Kite both scored three touchdowns for the Panthers and sophomore Carter Christianson topped it off with a two yard run for the final score.
Peat tallied all his touchdowns on the ground on two five yard plunges and a 19 yard race to the goal line. Kite scored on runs of five and 13 yards and caught a 37 yard pass from Ross Havlik.
The powerful running game saw the Panthers roll over the turf for 277 yards on 49 carries. Havlik clicked on six of nine passes for an additional 113 yards.
"It was a team effort on offense," said coach Gary Allen. "Any time you are able to move the ball well it means you are blocking well, not just the linemen but receivers and backs too."
Allen also felt the backs kept on pounding and performing their responsibilities throughout the game.
"We can always count on Brady Peat and. Clayton Kite to give maximum effort while running with the ball or blocking," he said.
Allen is also pleased with how his sophomore quarterback Ross Havlik has developed as the season progresses.
"He has worked very hard at getting better," Allen said about Havlik. "He has a solid grasp of our offense and is an accurate passer."
On the other side of the football the Panthers authored a shutout while holding the Bulldogs to 34 yards on the ground and 68 passing.
"We played well as a team on defense," Allen said. "It starts with our defensive line which we rotate several players, Parker Roth, Nathan Daniels, and Noah Pennekamp and each made several plays with hustle and determination."
Allen was also impressed with how the Panthers adjusted as the game went on.
"Although we made some mistakes early in the game we kept grinding and were able to overcome those mistakes," the coach said. "A Big part of that is our senior leaders. We have a few kids who have played a lot of games so they know how to grind out one play at a time."
The Panthers will host Mineral Point, currently leading the SWAL, this Friday for homecoming.
"Mineral Point has some size and athleticism," said Allen. "They are also very well coached. We will need to play well."
