New co-op shows Cardinals no mercy

No matter what the outcome, the injury riddled Cardinals are playing football.
The latest outing without their first and second team quarterbacks, one that is a key running back and kicker, was rough with the newly formed Potosi/Cassville co-op having their way in a 62-6 win.
"No excuses," says coach Mike Aide about taking on the giants with a team riddled by injury. "The past two weeks have been rough ones and show we need to do a better job getting into the weight room."
The game was close for a short time in the first quarter when the Cardinal defense come up big while trailing 8-0. Adam Wolfe picked up a fumble and sprited past all P/C defenders for a 35 yard touchdown.
But that was all the Cardinals could muster and they never got close to scoring again.
"We were never in the red zone during the game," Aide said after the score.
Wolfe was the recipient of some good defensive play by his teammates that created his touchdown.
"We blitzed our outside linebacker and forced the quarterback to hurry up," Aide said. "He lost control when he was being sacked. Adam was in the right spot and returned it for the only score for us."
P/C dominated the rest of the game with a 327-108 difference in total yardage and a 94-36 passing yard bulge. They put up 24 first quarter points and 26 in the second to lead 50-0 at the half. P/C finished by punching in two more scores in the fourth frame.
"Potosi/Cassville had no problem doing what they wanted," Aide said. "We were just overmatched with a much bigger and stronger team."
Peyton Coyier, who has been pressed into quarterback duties, threw for 26 yards and Wolfe pounded out 54 yards on the ground. Isaac Kutzke led in receiving yards with 18.
"We are still day to day with players that are injured," Aide said. "Our seniors have held things together during this rough patch. We will try to get things back on track his week."
The bright spot for the Cardinals was there were no further serious injuries in this game.
Defensively Wolfe had nine tackles, Michell Welsh and Derek Miller six, Coyier five and Paden Kosharek four.
Next up is a trip to River Ridge Friday.
"It will be their Homecoming," Aide said. " They are a very young and well coached. It will be a very tough game for us on Friday night.
