Highland volleyball wins two, evens mark


Highland evened its season record at 2-2 last week with a pair of Six Rivers volleyball wins.
Thursday night they topped a tough Belmont team in five games.
The Lady Braves took game one 25-23 and game three 29-27.
The Cards won game two 25-22 and then took the final two sets at 25-18 and 15-10.
"We did a good job of staying with it and never really tired,"said Cardinal coach Maria Wineski.
Maddie Drury came up with 23 assists, 11 kills and 17 digs on the night.
Kylie Esser also recorded 17 digs while Estee Goodweiler had 24 assists and two ace serves.
Myah Hennessed had nine kills and two blocks while Morgan Kosharek had 15 digs.
"Everybody played well," Wineski pointed out. "We read the hitters really well. It was nice to get that first conference win."
Tuesday night, the Cardinals took care of Shullsburg in four games.
They dropped the opener 25-18 and then came back to win the next three 25-23, 25-20, 25-21.
"We struggled finishing games tonight," Wineski said. "We would get to 20 and then have a tough time putting them away.
Esser recorded nine kills while Hennessey had two blocks and five aces.
Goodweiler came up with 11 assists and four aces while Drury assisted in eight points and had seven kills.
Kosharek had 11 digs.
The Cardinals host Cassville Thursday night for Parent's Night.
Tuesday they travel to River Ridge to close out the first half of the season.
