Along the Ad Routes

I had a cool, but great time on Saturday at the Iowa County Fair. As I have
always said, it's great to see people that maybe you only get to see once a
year. Also, you get to meet new people and see how the youngsters have
grown! It was really good to see the young Dodgeville lad who had been
caught in a power takeoff at the fair. He's coming along pretty good and is
in pretty good spirits despite being wheelchair ridden and having to wear a
harness.
In the above photo, Colton James is shown selling his sheep in the livestock
sale ring on Saturday night. What is so special about this is that he is allergic
to sheep. But, the Dodgeville youngster loves showing and tending sheep so
much that he dresses in longsleeves and wears gloves when handling them!
There are probable other stories like this from the fair too!

On beef cattle show day last year, I made the mistake of telling Greg May
(announcer) a story of when I was showing hogs back in the 50s and how I
received my "only" scar. The ring was outside and there were two rings separating
classes. There was just a wire fence between the two rings and it wasn't
fastened, so someone had to hold it. I was probably eight or so and was
holding it. A pretty good sized hog rammed into it and the end of the fence
was sharp and gouged me in my left arm. I didn't have stitches or anything,
so the scar is still visible today. Greg doesn't forget, so he told that story
again this year!

Actually that isn't my only scar. I am pretty much a scar all over!

I sure do get a lot of people yelling at me when I cross the main street and
jay-walk. But, the people do stop for me many times when I am doing that.
The other day someone yelled at me and I told them - "Hey, you stopped for
the person in the crosswalk so I took full advantage of that!" Actually I see
people stopping for pedestrians crossing at unmarked corners too!

This coming weekend is both the Hollandale Homecoming and Jonesdale
Field Days. It's a good time to visit some parts of Iowa County that maybe
you don't get to very often!

The following Sunday (September 17) is the Dodgeville Area Scholarship
Foundation Incorporated (DASFI) golf outing at Dodge Point Country Club.
Get your team entered soon as there aren't many spots left. It's a day of a lot
of fun!
