Highland VB takes team win to Seneca tonight

It was not the case of a player or two carrying Highland's girls volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Wauzeka-Steuben Tuesday in the opening round of playoffs in Division 4.
Rather, it was a case of everyone contributing as the Cardinals advance to play at Seneca Thursday.
Seneca went to the WIAA State Tournament last year and only graduated one girl off that squad. Highland coach Maria Wineski said she has not seen the Indians play but doesn't feel that is a problem.
"Going in cold is not so bad," she said. "This is a tough regional and anyone can come out of it so we will just go play our game."
The Cardinals picked up two quick wins to start Tuesday's match, winning 25-14, 25-21. They slipped some in the third game, losing 25-20 then regrouped to win the fourth set 25-20.
"We controlled the first two sets and really hustled," Wineski said. "Then we had some mistakes in the third set and that got us back on our heels. It was big to come back in the fourth set and get back into sync. We looked like a team tonight and played pretty tough all the way around."
"We played our spots well," she said.
Senior Kylie Esser had a strong overall performance with 11 kills, three blocks, two aces and nine digs.
Junior Maddie Drury had nine kills, three aces and 13 assists.
A pair of freshmen had strong performances. Estee Goodweiler put up 21 assists and had an ace. Myah Hennessey had six kills, two blocks and an ace.
Others with big performances were Megan Mueller with seven kills and seven digs, Carlee Kosharek with three kills and a block along with Morgan Kosharek, the libero, who had 10 digs and two aces.
The Cardinals enjoyed a strong night serving with nine total aces.
