Help if you can

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

You can't take it with you.
My mom always said that when it came to spending money to help others.
You can't take it with you.
I don't think there has been a time in my life like the last several weeks. Hurricanes virtually destroying parts of Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico, leaving way too many dead and way too many displaced. Who knows when the power will come back on in Puerto Rico and the residents will be able to have running water again.
A deadly shooting in Las Vegas, so deadly that it is being called the worst massacre in recent history. People come and go to Las Vegas but how do the people who live there ever heal?
There are funds set up to help those who have no where to turn because of the disasters. People can give and what is given, no matter what is he amount, will help.
The JJ Watt Foundation is a good one to use for donations in Texas.
Puerto Rico's first lady, Beatriz Rossello, has launched an emergency fund with help from private companies. United for Puerto Rico (Unidos Por Puerto Rico) lets you donate through PayPal or directly to its bank account.
The Miami Foundation, the nonprofit that runs the annual Give Miami Day, has set up The Hurricane Relief Fund to support groups working on the ground to rebuild. It's also created the Irma Caribbean Strong Relief Fund to help small Caribbean islands such as Barbuda and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Irma Community Recovery Fund, focusing on Florida's marginalized communities.
Las Vegas can be helped by donations to the Las Vegas Victims Fund.
If you can give, do so. There are other funds for each disaster but make sure you check them out before using them.
My mom also frequently said something else. She reminded me we are all in this together.
