Along the Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

It's hard to believe that October is now among us. That means there's only
three months left in the year and Christmas is only 80 days away! Okay, I
just had to bring all that up about how fast the years go by!
*****
There were at least four Dodgeville High School class reunions over the
weekend that I knew about. They were spread all over as one was at the Red
Room, another at Cobblestone, one at Duke's and yet another at Pleasant
Ridge.

The weather has been something else around here with daytime temperatures
ranging from mid 60s to mid 80s the past week and into this week. We
still need some rain. We did get maybe a 10th of an inch the other day, but
that may even be stretching it. I heard that this was one of the driest Septembers
on record for this area - not good! From what I could gather, this was
about the eighth driest September on record for this area.
*****
The fall sports season is really winding down. Volleyball playoffs begin on
October 17 while football starts with Level 1 playoffs on October 20. That's
just two weeks away!
*****
I was crossing the main street in Dodgeville (in the crosswalk) the other
day and a passing motorist yelled out - "You're suppose to be carrying an
orange flag!" I answered back that it would just make me an easier target for
drivers to see me and take better aim at me! Vehicles are really doing a nice
job stopping for pedestrians in the crosswalks around here though. Maybe
that's because the main part of the tourist season is coming to a close!

We want to welcome Dodgeville's new Chamber of Commerce Director
Beth Mikrut-Giles to that position. Beth is a Dodgevilleite and looks forward
to meeting and working with people and businesses.

It was great seeing people at both Highland's and Dodgeville's Hall of
Fame induction ceremonies last week. The people inducted at both of them
were very well deserving. The 1951 DHS football team aren't youngsters
any more, but about enough to make up a team were on hand for the ceremonies!
Above you'll see Dodgeville's own Howard Rideout speaking to the
gathering with several of his 1951 teammates in the background, along with
Jeff Bradley, who coordinates the event, seated.

The annual Home Talent League banquet was held Sunday night at Rex's
Innkeeper in Waunakee. Brother Pat was the MC and handed out a lot of the
awards. Tanner Solberg also received an individual award and accepted the
Playoff Championship plaque that night.
