Pointers down Dodgers

Mineral Point went 10 for 10 from the free throw line in the last 44 seconds and took a 73-67 non-conference opening win over host Dodgeville Tuesday night.
Sophomore Wes Berget was 6x6, senior Chance Wendhausen 2x2 and sophomore Isaac Lindsey 2x2 during that time. The score was knotted at 63 before that run at the line.
The Pointers held a six point lead at 60-54 with 4:41 remaining, but Dodger Adam Phillips hit a three pointer, Nate James a running lay up and Phillips hit two from the line for the Dodgers last lead at 61-60.
They held a 34-32 lead at halftime.
Lindsey led the Pointers with 17 points with Berget totaling 15, Chance Wendhausen 13 and freshman Brayden Dailey 10.
James led the Dodgers with 19 with Phillips hitting 15. Bryce Prochaska added 13 and Brantley Eastman 12.
"It was a good team win for us. A lit of guys contributed," said Pointer coach Dan Burreson. "We got big minutes from Liam Stumpf, Garret Wendhausen and Kevin Eisenzimmer. They kept us in the game in the first half when we were in foul trouble. However, we never lost our composure."
He added, "We made some good passes, but we also made some poor decisions that let them back into the game."
"I knew this would be a tough game," Burreson said. Give Dodgeville credit. This was a good road win for us."
"We have to finish and make free throws," said Dodgeville coach Matt McGraw (his team was 10/23 from the line). "We turned it over too many times. We were without two of our main guards. But the guys who filled in stepped it up and filled in at positions they aren't used to."
"I was proud of our effort, but credit Mineral Point. They played well in a tooth and nail game."
"I learned a lot about our guys tonight,"McGraw concluded.
