Other Eagles turn the tables on Barneveld

After a solid first half and an eight point lead at intermission the Barneveld boys basketball team was liking how things were going at Fennimore Friday.
On top of that they had held Fennimore ace Reid Larson to one basket.
"We put a lot of emphasis on stopping him," Eagles coach Tyler Sullivan said. "We did a pretty good job of that."
He was right as Barneveld limited Reid Larson five points.
But his freshman brother Adam picked up some of the slack with nine points and the Kenney brothers, Liam and Kellen, did the rest as Fennimore roared back in the second 18 minutes.
With the Kenney boys sniping away and getting some support from the rest of the Fennimore team the 44-28 difference the second half was too much for Barneveld to overcome. That translated into a 73-65 win by the other Golden Eagles in the non-conference match-up.
It was the second straight loss for the Eagles over a strong opponent as Fennimore is ranked in Division 4.
"For the most part the game was back and forth and was a good test for us," Sullivan said. "They don't have the size Evansville does but they have some great scorers."
It was Liam Kenney, a 6-2 senior, who went off on the Eagles with a 23 point outburst, 16 in the second half.
Sophomore Kellen Kenney and senior Dakota Govier both chipped in seven down the stretch and finished with 14 and 12.
"The Kenney brothers really exposed us at times," Sullivan said. "Fennimore can score in bunches."
Sullivan said he felt the momentum was on Barneveld's side at halftime but some defensive breakdowns gave Fennimore some easy baskets the second half along with some turnovers and missed free throws on Barneveld's part.
"Those things kind of sealed our fate," Sullivan said.
"This was another great test in our tough non-conference schedule," Sullivan added. "We will keep working to improve the little things that are costing us games."
Once again Kauy Fargo led Barneveld's offense with 21 points with Malcom Reed adding 14 and Jonas Ignatius finishing with 11.
