Foul trouble limits Eagles in loss to Arrows

There was only thing that troubled Barneveld in their game with Lancaster Monday.
Foul trouble.
It appeared the Lady Golden Eagles could not move an inch without one of the men in stripes calling them for something.
And it didn't get any better as the game rolled along.
The Eagles watched a 23-20 halftime lead disappear and had to settle for a 48-38 loss in the non-conference game.
To make a long story short the Eagles were whistled for 36 fouls and lost four starters to fouls. The Flying Arrows committed 21 fouls, many coming near the end of the game.
"We couldn't get into a rhythm after we had to rotate so much with the foul trouble we were forced to deal with" ,said Barneveld coach Doug Pickarts. "We were forced to use some combinations we don't normally use and we had some tired girls because we couldn't take them out."
The Eagles bothered the Arrows with their first half pressure but also saw them go to the line early as the bonus came into effect four minutes into the game. That created a steady path to the free throw line for the Arrows but they often came away empty. They shot 18 for 45 from the line for the game with many of the misses coming in the first 18 minutes.
The shot that hurt the most was a banked in three pointer at the buzzer that pulled the Arrows within three points at intermission.
With the fouls continuing at a strong pace the second half the Eagles were forced to burn timeouts to give the girls a rest.
"The fouls made us play with a short bench," said Pickarts.
Courtney Skaife, who has been performing the role of point guard while Jessica Walker recovers from an injury, led the Eagles with 14 points. Taryn Pickarts added 11 but spent some big minutes on the bench before fouling out.
Kiley Kelly led the Arrows with 17 points and Morellia Galvan added 10.
The Eagles have a break in the schedule and resume play in a week and a half when they travel to Juda on December 1.
