It is an all in the family episode when it comes to Barneveld basketball and their legendary coach Jim Myers.
Coaching both the boys and girls basketball teams and taking them to the WIAA state tournament created many special times for several families.
Players include Samantha and Lucas Evans, Trey and Madi Laube, Kauy and Kelsee Fargo, Jacob and Amanda Roberts and Jacob and Rachel Slaney.
One of the parents, Stacie Kasten, did triple duty when Kauy and Kelsee were playing. She was Jim's assistant and later assisted Doug Pickarts who took over the girls when Jim assumed the head coach position for the boys. That meant making both games whenever possible and traveling last year from Green Bay to La Crosse the same day to watch both play.
"Jim has always been around the gym and the game," she said. "They couldn't wait to play for him. They always wanted to do that. He taught them basketball and teamwork. They learned to be good teammates."
Kelsee and Kauy both played on Jim Myers' coached championship teams.
"It is so cool," Kelsee said about both getting to play on championship teams. "Those are special moments we can share together."
For one of the biggest Eagles fans, Abigail Sutter, it was a struggle to talk.
"I don't have much of a voice left," Abigail said Saturday at the community rally that welcomed the state championship boys team.
Abigail spent two days screaming cheers for the Eagles and holding up posters of encouragement. Of course, each day brought another cheer costume too.
She was a standout guard for the girls team and had her senior season ended at the Sectional semifinals in a loss to Fall River - she scored 20 points.
She is also close to the boys on the team, especially Malcolm Reed.
"It was a very tough week," she said.
But basketball helped everyone get their minds off the hard times.
"The team really came together for Malcolm and each other," she said. "The week ended well and it nice to see everyone so happy."
