Matthew Myers
Leading scorer, four year starter, son of coach Jim Myers.
Question: What is it like knowing you will end your high school career on the floor at the Kohl Center?
"It is pretty good...make that pretty great," Matthew said.
"When we lost in the opening game by two points last year it left a sour taste," Myers said. "We put in a lot of time in the off season and this is a real team effort. We carried that feeling with us all season."
"We've had some tests," Myers continued, "But we never stopped believing in each other. We've spent a lot of time on the court together since fourth grade."
About the win over a ranked Hilbert team Myers said, "We came out firing because we knew they could shoot, Later we used the crowd's momentum for motivation and pushed it to keep them from scoring."
Mike Zouski
Three year starter, great scorer and rebounder
"What a great feeling," Zouski said about getting back to the Kohl Center for Barneveld's last games of the season.
"I don't know what I would do without this group of guys," Zouski continued. "We've been together since fourth grade and it has been a fun time."
He agreed with Myers when he added, "It feels good to go back to the Kohl Center again."
Abigail Sutter
Senior point guard who had her career as an Eagle ended in the Sectional semifinals and has turned into one of the best cheerleaders the boys team has.
Question: You really cheer hard for the boys every game. How do you get the front row seat where your scream your head off?
"That is my seat," she says with a smile. And I love to show school spirit."
Abigail adds that the boys supported the girls all season and the girls do the same for them.
"We all support them,"she said.
Will she find her way to the front row at the Kohl Center Friday and hopefully Saturday?
"Definitely,"she said.
Rosann Myers
Second grade teacher at Barneveld and wife of coach Jim Myers
It was a double treat for Rosann seeing her husband become the winning coach and returning to the state tournament along with her son playing a key role in the success of Barneveld basketball.
She has been with Jim every step of the way and her perspective on playing at Watertown was twinged with history.
"This was a good omen playing here,"she said. "Jim and the girls beat Heritage Christian here to go to state a few years ago. Winning here again is a good sign."
About her husband's long career in coaching--he guided the girls program to 699 wins as the winningest girls coach in the state before switching to the boys last year:
"Jim stays grounded," she said. "And he is very giving to others. You have to feel good about this."
"It is also great seeing Matthew play," she added.
She noted it was a tough decision that Jim was faced with to end his long time service to the girls program and switch to the boys.
"It was hard on him," she said. "I don't think people know how hard it was to switch. But the time was right for him."
"He is never concerned with the numbers that go with coaching. He just gives it all he can," Rosann added.
"I am very proud of him."
