Redbirds drop Pointers from tourney

A couple of late three pointers by Darlington post player Chad Golackson turned a tight first half into a 25-19 Redbird lead at halftime. From then on, the Birds steadily pulled away for a 53-38 D4 regional final win over Mineral point Saturday night.
The Redbirds started the second half on a 6-0 run and never really looked back.
Six of seven Darlington players who scored had six or more points with Ryan Glendenning leading the way with 14. Golackson, who is still coming back from an injury, totaled nine.
Pointer junior Chance Wend-hausen was the game's leading scorer with 15 points.
Freshman Isaac Lindsey totaled 11 even though he was shadowed the entire game.
"There is no question we could have done some things better, but we also need to give credit to Darlington. They are really good and they played really well defensively tonight," was the way Mineral Point coach Dan Burreson summed up the game.
"I thought our guys battled and had a very good year," he added. "We got to a regional final, finished tied for second in the league, earned a first round tournament bye.Our 17 wins were 6 more than last year."
Burreson also said, " I really want to thank our seniors for the past four years: Jack Warrick, Lance Steffes, Jake Gorgen, Brant James, and Dathan Paradis. They have all worked hard and had positive attitudes."
In talking about the future, he said, "We have a strong nucleus returning for next year along with some good younger players. It will be exciting to see what the next few years bring"
