2 teams at Saturday's state championships. They probably felt they should've
finished higher, but there are some pretty powerful teams that finished ahead
of them - and they are really young! Freshman Miah Lemanski became
Dodgeville's first gymnast to claim a medal and reach the state podium, and
she did so in three events. Mineral Point's Sateash Berge claimed two medals
in 1995 as the first to gain a medal from the Dodge-Point co-op! The WIAA
used to have the individual events on Friday night and the teams competed
on Saturday. Currently, the team event is Friday night and the individuals
compete on Saturday. I feel, with the young team Dodge-Point has, that being
there with some competing on Friday night in the individual part like before
would've benefitted them in the team event if it was held on Saturday. They
had a great season - conference dual meet champs, conference meet champs,
sectional champs - and they have no seniors!

Barneveld and Pecatonica are the lone boys basketball teams, from our coverage
area, heading to sectionals this Thursday and Saturday in hopes to earn
a trip to state at the Kohl Center the following weekend. Unfortunately they
play each other Thursday night at Middleton. Good luck to them!

We do not have a coverage area team going to Green Bay this weekend for
the girl's state tournament for the first time in several years. Both Barneveld
and Mineral Point dropped out one game short.

Congratulations to former Dodgeville girls basketball player Kara Crowley
as her Beaver Dam team will be competing at state in Green Bay in Division
2. Kara played the first three years of her high school basketball career for
the Dodgers. She topped the 1000 point mark this season at Beaver Dam.

I made a stop at Enhancements Saturday as that was the day Nicki held her
Hallmark Open House. It was pretty busy inside with Nicki greeting all who
entered and checked out her Hallmark displays. She said it was a lot of work
setting things up, but it was worth it - they were having a good day! She has
the only Hallmark Store between Madison and Dubuque. Oh, and she still
has her other gifts and does flowers, weddings, etc! See photo above.

Sunday afternoon, while taking a break from the office, I ran into a couple
from Platteville at Cobblestone Coffee House. The fellow said he was Pat
Thym's nephew, so we had a pretty good talk. He also told me about an historic
building that their city council has voted to take down for a parking lot.
He said their preservation commission is trying to halt it, but has run into
some blocks - but he's still hoping to get it done.
