Along the Ad Routes

Sunday's festival at Livingston drew a very big crowd. The "Echoes of
Camp Randall," a group of University of Wisconsin-Madison students, put
on quite a performance - not only as they were marching in the parade, but
afterwards for the crowd. The festival committee did a great job setting things
up. There were a lot of antique tractors on display, plus "little" dancers and
they sold out of chicken (for maybe the first time ever) before the 2:00 parade!
Check out some of the band people in the photo above having fun with
a few of youngsters during one of the numbers!

The problem with Livingston being sold out of chicken before the parade
is that I got there about 1/2 hour before the parade and was going to eat some
- that didn't happen!

Sunday I also made a quick stop at the St. Bernadette's Catholic Church's
picnic in Ridgeway. There was a pretty good group of people eating chicken
there too. It must've been "chicken eating day" in the area.

Last Wednesday, son Michael made the trip to Dodgeville (from Muscatine,
Iowa) to have lunch at Bob's BBQ. He bought for me as a belated Father's
Day present. The next day was his birthday and I gave him a card with a couple
of bucks in it - that's what he wanted as he is going to buy a bike! After
lunch he left for Madison to stop between at the HyVee stores to see his
cousin and some former co-workers. He also had to fill his trunk with some
Spotted Cow - not sold outside of Wisconsin, so there are a lot of carry-outs
from the state!

I ran into former Dodgeville graduates Kramer (Butch) Rock and his cousin
Bill Rock at Corner Drug last week. They were having a malted milk! They
headed to the Chronicle office with me to say "hi" to brother Patrick and
swap a few tales about baseball and school days. Then they went and looked
around the remodeling at the high school. Here's what Butch had to say in
an email: "Do like what's happening at the high school. Hard to believe they'll
have it ready for replacing furnishings etc. by Aug. 8 or so. Thanks for showing
the cast cement or stone items wisely salvaged from the old high school
when it was demolished. Dumb that they are hidden from view, but neat they
were at least not trashed." Those cast items are located in between the outside
air conditioning unit and the pine trees in the Courthouse Pocket Park that is
just outside of the Chronicle office behind the "old jail."

The two of them told me they tested my talking about crossing the main
street. They didn't grab an orange flag and started out.The vehicle that
stopped first for them was an IOWA licensed car! I told them I was starting
to get those drivers trained!
