Becker too much for Panthers

In a battle of number one seeds there cannot be a margin of error.
But it wasn't that way for Iowa-Grant and the four errors they committed haunted them the entire game,
The Panthers were locked in battle with Juda/Albany and their ace pitcher Nickole Becker. It was Becker's night as she limited the Panthers to three hits and one run while her teammates were presenting her with a 6-1 win,
The Panthers scored their lone run in the first to answer a two run Juda/Albany top of the frame. With one out Emma Liddicoat walked, stole second and came home when Malery Peat dropped a single into short centerfield.
The Panthers threatened once more. In the bottom of the fourth Hannah Stevens singled and Peat coaxed a walk to start the frame. But runners interference was assessed on Stevens when she ran into the shortstop for the second out and Becker got the third out on a K. Becker then retired the next 11 batters.
Maranda McCarthy, Iowa-Grant's workhorse righthander, finished the season 21-4 in the last year of her career. She will play in the Senior All-Star game Tuesday at Wisconsin Dells.
McCarthy struck out four, walked three and gave up eight hits.
Also graduating are Emma Liddicoat, Taylor Liddicoat, Hannah Stevens, Peat, Lauren Winkler, Jessica Pluemer, Jaynie Rule and Marie Driver.
"Earlier this season I told the girls that softball was the best part of my day and I meant that," said coach Deanna Fulton. "I am very thankful for these nine seniors who led the team both on and off the field. It was an amazing season."
