umpire who saved a life of a woman and then went to his regular game and
called balls and strikes.
John Tumpane was umpiring in Pittsburg and was walking to his hotel and
passed by Clemente Bridge and saw a woman climb over the railing. He and
a few others grabbed hold of her and someone called 911 - the woman was
taken to a hospital with non-threatening injuries. He was still shaking when
he called his wife and told her what had happened. He then went to work and
did his umpiring duties behind the plate that day.

We hosted the 13U State Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament at Centennial
Park over the weekend and on Monday (see above photo of some action with
our own Earl Williams umpiring). The six teams that played in it were pretty
competitive - only one game was a blowout. I had great help in the concession
stand with my freshman to be great-niece Emma Berg there the entire time.
She did a great job with the other helpers and kept everything stocked to the
brim - and was really good with the customers. Wayne Larson helped with
the cooking on the final day (Monday), but Emma made most of the popcorn
too.

During the tournament and on the final day (especially) people said this
was the best concession stand they had been to all season. They said there
were great burgers and the pulled pork went over really well too! Several left
tips in our jar - donations to help out Dodgeville Baseball in general - teams
that play at Centennial Park!

Son Michael made another trip to Dodgeville. This time he and his wife
(Jolisa) were on their way to Milwaukee to take in a Brewers game. They
saw a win and also the roof closing as storms were coming in while the game
was being played. He texted me and said it was really hot in there when the
roof closed, but in 15 minutes he texted me again saying it was a lot better
already. They seemed to have a good time at the ballpark!

There are a bunch of ice cream socials going on around the area. Make sure
you check out our Update and entertainment (ad) section of the paper to find
one close to you! Also, the Linden Frolic is coming up the end of the month
and the Cobb Corn Roast a couple of weeks later.
