Work with the press

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Watching the "non-press briefing" by President Trump's press secretary
left me with one thought.
"Not four years of this please."
Our new president makes no secret that he has little regard for the press.
That comes after a tough campaign that not many gave him a chance to win.
It was a campaign where the press took him to task many times and he spent
a considerable amount of time denying and showering the press with negative
comments.
So was the "non-press briefing" a kick at the can or was it a warning that
there is more to come?
At a press conference prior to taking office President Trump did not recognize
CNN or Wikileaks when it was time for questions.
As a member of the press if there is to be true transparency with the highest
office in the land this cannot continue..
Can our new president win this battle he seems to want to fight?
I would say no.
I would also say it is time to wipe the slate clean and get down to business.
Our new president needs to focus on the business of running the country.
The press needs to focus on the business of reporting the news dealing
with how decisions that are made affects everyone.
The press has been around a lot longer than President Trump has and it will
be here after he is gone.
We don't need a battle. We need information as to how our lives are affected
by policy.
That is the way it should be.
