Dodger boys down stubborn Panthers

Seven players scored in the first half as the Dodgeville boys basketball team rolled to a 36-19 lead over Iowa-Grant at the intermission Saturday. They coasted to a 64-48 win, but not before the Panthers made it interesting.
It looked as if the game was getting out of hand in the second frame as the Dodgers doubled IG up at 52-26.
That's when the Panthers turned up the jets. Payton Simon buried three consecutive shots from downtown and the Panthers drove the basket with that result being a host of free throws.
IG had eight players score in the second stanza.
Dodgeville answered with Isaac Nagel driving and hitting tough shots and short jumpers to the tune of him scoring 13 of his 16 points after halftime.
Bryce Prochaska was the first-half force, scoring 12 of his game-high 18.
Simon hit five treys on the day and scored a team-high 16 points.
Caleb Hill added 12, with nine coming from the free throw line.
Iowa-Grant sank eight three pointers and five from two point range.
"We were definitely more balanced in scoring today," Iowa-Grant coach Ryan Hill pointed out. "Payton came off the bench and hit five threes and 10 of our 12 guys scored."
"Dodgeville is a good team. We started out zoning them due to their size, but we didn't have an answer for Bryce inside," he added. "We went man in the second half and I felt Gerrit (Hunt) did a nice job on him. Then Nagel got hot in the second half for them."
"This team doesn't give up though," Hill pointed out. "We were down 26 and could've folded. Instead we got it down to 13."
Dodgeville coach Matt McGraw said, "I thought we played good ball in the first half. We are very good when we make good decision after good decision and in the first half we did."
"It was good to have seven guys score," he said. "We like to have five or more score."
"Credit Iowa-Grant though. They work hare," McGraw concluded saying.
