Cardinals thumped by Lady Miners

Six players scored for Shullsburg in the first half while only four players scored the entire game for Highland as the visiting Lady Miners rolled to a 66-23 Six Rivers West girls basketball win Thursday.
It was a night of a rare girls/boys doubleheader between the two teams that saw Shullsburg also take game two.
In the end for Shullsburg, eight players scored with senior Cora Holland popping in 18 - 11 coming in the first half when they took a 44-17 lead.
Lady Miners Brianna Leahy (6'1" junior) and senior Hattie Rennert both added 11.
Highland was led by their lone senior Jessica Kosharek with 12, 10 coming in the first half.
The Lady Cards received a big blow when Kylie Esser went down with a knee/leg injury about three minutes into the game.
"The flue bug hit us this week," said Highland coach Josh Tarrell. "Jessica (Kosharek) came back yesterday and her sister Carlee came back today and another sister, Morgan, went home today. Then we lost Kylie early in the game."
"Shullsburg is in first place for a reason," he added. "We had nobody to match up inside with Leahy."
"We played a lot of freshmen and those girls really stepped up when they were needed," Tarrell said.
