Staver lead Pointers past Riverdale

Syd Staver poured in 33 points and the Mineral Point girls basketball team whipped host Riverdale 73-53 Thursday night in SWAL action.
Staver was hot from long range with five three pointers. She hit three in her 21 point first half.
The Pointers built up a 35-20 lead in that first half.
Morgan Ross came off the bench and scored all 12 of her points in the second half to match Stavers output for that period.
"After some early basket trading, we started to push the tempo and created some easier scoring opportunities in the first half," Mineral Point coach Mitch Wainwright said. "We built up a 12 point lead just before halftime."
He added, "The second half started about the same way then we really started to pull away. Syd had 33 points shooting it very well (5 - 3's) and we created great scoring opportunities for each other. McKenna Reichling had 8 assists, and as a team, we had 19 assists. Morgan James played really well as did Amanda Murphy. Both girls came off the bench and did a nice job rebounding and capitalized on some scoring chances."
Riverdale had three players hit in double figures, led by McKenzie Couey with 16. Tatum Johnson added 15 with Macy Mau hitting 13.
