Along the Ad Routes

Sunday was our mother Ruby's 103rd birthday. Brother Pat, myself and
Brooke (Bechen) went to Freeport, Illinois to view the Chicago Cubs' Baseball
World Series Championship Trophy. You'll have to read the Spotlight
story on the back page to get filled in on this event. It was a great day for a
drive and Brooke had a chance to see some of the area she hadn't seen before.
She also learned a lot about our family, meaning Dad, Mom, stepfather and
stepmother plus aunts and uncles.

We received some shocking news Friday morning at our "Community
Breakfast" - this month at the Red Room (7:30). Dave Stone announced he
was going to close the doors of Collins & Hying Plumbing & Heating on
February 3rd - the anniversary date of him buying it. He has had the business
for sale for a couple of years, but just recently put a sign out in front announcing
it was for sale. There have been a few people interested, but no takers.
Dave has always lived out of the area, but has been involved in a lot of organizations
and in the community. We will miss him!

Also on Friday the monthly Dodgeville school reunion was held at noon at
the Red Room. This month had probably one of the lightest crowds we've
had with about 20 attending. We always have some great conversation though
with a lot of tales told of our "school days"! This month Steve Rasmussen
attended from the Class of 1964. It was good to see him and swap a few stories.
His father - Dr. Rasmussen - was a medical doctor here for many years
before retiring.

I had a chance to run out to Harris Park (Ley Pavilion) Saturday to view
the FREE ice skate event. There was a lot going on in town and out with tournaments
so the attendance while I was there wasn't the best. The kids and
teachers there were having a great time though. The Ice Wolves Hockey Association
held a FREE skate event New Year's Eve. They were very happy
with the 130 that came and took advantage of the event - great job! See above
photo from Saturdays Free skate event.

A big thank you to Katie Valeria and Dodgeville High School for the cookies
she dropped off for the staff as a holiday Thank You! They hit the spot as
snacks.

How about them Packers! I didn't ever think they would take care of the
Giants like they did, especially the way the game started. Then Aaron
Rodgers caught fire and settled in. He can be termed a magician at times.
Now it's on to Dallas for the nemesis Cowboys. I hope they can do it again
and meet up with the Atlanta Falcons. Cousin Jeanette, who was just in Wisconsin
visiting from Georgia, is a Falcon-eer, but at times she pulls for the
Packer (but not if they meet)!

We are in the process of putting out a Health & Fitness Guide the end of
this month. Then we are doing a Senior Living Guide the end of the following
month. If anyone out there hasn't been contacted for that Senior Living Guide
and wants to be included in it - call the Chronicle please. Deadline is 1-27-
17.
