they are over. There is a lot of running to family and friends events and celebrations
and then there are the holiday basketball/wrestling tournaments.
It's a little more lax with the sporting events as they aren't conference games
that mean a lot, but they are usually against teams you don't usually see and
"better" competition to many of the teams.

The "Reilly" Christmas was in Waunakee this year and on New Year's Day.
The young kids (12) had a great time playing together while the "oldsters"
had a chance to watch a lot of football. There were probably more presents
there than I ever received in 17 years as a kid. I'm certainly not a kid any
more - that was 53 years ago! It was a great time with great food and good
conversation!

The day after New Years the Chronicle office was open, but not much activity
as it was a "Government" holiday. I had the chance to go to Darlington
for the "Marty Christmas." Jack Marty is married to my cousin Jeanette and
he is originally from Darlington - they live in Atlanta. I have been included
in most activities they have when they are in Wisconsin. I wish they could
be here more! There was a great spread made by Dick and Jeanne Black,
Jack's brother-in-law and sister.

They left Wednesday morning. They were going to leave Thursday, but
there is snow in the forecast for Flowery Branch, Georgia (part of Atlanta)
so they wanted to get back home before it hits. They don't have the snow removal
equipment or ice melt we have here to deal with such things. When it
snows there, everything stops!

So far I haven't struggled with writing 2017 on my checks or documents I
have to fill out. It was about six months ago though that I wrote out a check
and put 2018 as the year! What do you think that meant? That I am really
losing it!

The colder weather has set in for this week with warmer temperatures coming
by Monday. Then there is snow in the forecast for Tuesday and into the
weekend off and on. That sounds more like winter and January!

The Packers football team made the playoffs after a lot of people didn't
give them a chance (when they were 4-6). They could be categorized as a
team "nobody really wants to play right now!"

The UW Badgers football team went out in flying colors with a win at the
Cotton Bowl. The weather wasn't quite what it was back when the Highland
band went to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl parade - they had an ice storm that
year!
