Pointers win two matches, induct two into hall of fame

It was Hall of Fame and Senior Night plus there was a make-up match Thursday night for the Mineral Point wrestlers.
They showed the inductees and fans present some power with first a win over Riverdale convincingly at 51-18, followed by a more lopsided win over Cuba City/Benton/South-western 72-12.
The opener saw the Pointers build up a 21-0 lead on two pins, a forfeit and a decision. They scored the final 30 points of the bout after the Chieftains pulled to within three at 21-18.
In the second match, the Pointers came away with six pins and six forfeits for their runaway win.
"I thought we wrestled well," said Pointer coach Scott Schmitz. "The kids came out and wrestled hard. We have wrestled eight teams in the tp 10 of their divisions lately. We needed to wrestle some teams from around here."
"Against Riverdale, we started at a good spot. Lucas (Sanchez) and Grant (Rose) both had big pins. Riverdale was missing their big guy too," he pointed out.
"Cuba City is just strugglng to get guys out. Hopefully they will build that program back up," he added.
In between matches, the Pointers inducted Mike Dolphin (1974-77) and Todd Schaaf (1981-84) into the Al Bauman Mineral Point high School Wrestling Hall of Fame.
They also recognized seniors: Boone Schmitz, Lucas Sanchez, Grant Rose, Sawyer Wallace, Kaleb Pilling and Kyle Juedes.
The Pointers travel to Merrill for the Northern Exposure on Wednesday and Thursday.
"Sauk Praire joins the line-up there. That will make it really interesting. There are some very good teams there already," Schmitz said. "We're right about where we need to be at this point of the season. We need to get Danny (Pittz) completely healthy."
