Five Panthers 3 Pointers head to state

Iowa-Grant/Highland wrestlers came out of the Mineral Point Division 3 Sectional with all five of their qualifiers placing in the top three and earning a tripto the State Individual Championships this Thursday through Saturday at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Mineral Point had five at their own sectional and qualified three.
Fennimore led in the number of qualiifers sending 9 out of their 10 to state.
Iowa-Grant/Highland had four first place finishers in 120 lb. Sawyer Sarbacker, 152 lb. Max Maylor, 170 lb. Brady Peat and 182 lb. Drew Hennessey.
All four pinned their finals' opponent with Peat and Hennessey pinning all three of their foes.
The other I-G/Highland qualifier is 145 lb. Clayton Kite, at 145 lbs.
"I thought we wrestled very well." said Iowa-Grant/Highland coach Ryan Allen. "All five of our guys knew what they wanted to do and they did it very well. We wrestled very aggressively and got into positions we can score points in."
He added, "To have 4 sectional champs was pretty special for our program and sending 5 guys to this sectional and getting all 5 to state was pretty awesome too. It really shows how dedicated these guys have been to working hard and improving every time they wrestle."
The coach concluded by saying, "I really think we can place all 5 guys in Madison. It's a win or die type of playing field up there and you have to take it one match at a time, but I think the way we have been wrestling we can get it done. It will be a very exciting week for I-G/H wrestling."
The Pointers will send three runners-up in 106 lb. Danny Pittz, 113 lb. Caden Carey and 160 and. Riley Workman.
"I thought we wrestled well," Mineral Point coach Scott Schmitz. "We just got beat by pretty good wrestlers."
He talked about his individuals saying, "Danny wrestled a little injured. He had beaten Lull every other time he faced him this year. Hopefully Thursday night he will be feeling better and ready to go.
"Caden wrestled two very smart matches, but in the finals he got into a place we didn't want to be. At state we need to wrestle our way.
"Riley had a great tournament. He wrestled solid matches. Brady (Roen) is just a little better than us, but each time against him we learn a little more about him.
"Logan got caught in a headlock and had to battle the rest of the match. We almost had him turned, but fell short. Hopefully we learned from that and will get there next year.
"Kyle hurt his ankle in a freak accident in Friday night's practice. He was at state last year and is a senior who has had four good years here. I can't thank him enough for the last four years."
