Dodger girls close regular season with loss

Dodgeville's girls basketball team found out what it was like playing without their premier player in junior Hannah Jones - and they did so against the top SWC team in Platteville Friday night.
Jones suffered a back injury and withe the Dodgers having a full week off in playoffs, the decision was to rest her until this coming Friday night at Wautoma.
The final score was Platteville 75 Dodgeville 38.
"We knew coming in we would be shorthanded," said Dodger coach Josh Busch. "The girls knew what a tough spot that put them in going up against Platteville. The game didn't have any bearing on the outcome of the conference race, so we made the decision to rest Hannah and bring up some players from the JV and Varsity Reserve."
The spark that the Dodgers may've been looking for possibly came from a freshman off the JV. Cassie Tremelling was their lone player to hit double figures with 11. She hit two shots from three point range too.
Also, off the Varsity Reserve, freshman Jalene Pierick picked off a couple of rebounds, played good defense and went 1x2 from the free throw line.
"It was good to see Cassie get some shots to go in," Busch pointed out. "Platteville is a talented abe big team. We just wanted to stay healthy for the tournaments.."
The coach also said, "It was good that 'B' (Breanna Freeman) was able to contribute with a bucket. She's our lone senior and has seen limited playing time. She's stayed positive the entire season and is the first one to support any of the other players. That's a tribute to the kind of person she is."
The Lady Hillmen were led in scoring by 6' junior Sami Knockel with 26 points, nine coming in the second half.
Junior post Skye Digman hit 12 points with senior Brelynn Updike hitting a trio of threes and finishing with 11.
In all, 10 players scored for Platteville.
