Along the Ad Routes
By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com
Chronicle for a copy of Rick Birk's "Dodgeville: Capturing Hearts" book. It
portrays the Dodgeville High School State Basketball runner-up year (1963)
and state basketball championship (1964). It also has photos of the 1962 DHS
Golf Team (first one ever), track, baseball and football teams, plus some of
John "Weenie" Wilson's play diagrams. It is truly a memento of its time for
Dodgeville sports fans and/or graduate.

I forgot to mention that I was a member of the first golf team at DHS in
1962 when I was a sophomore. Myself and Mike Collins were sophomores
and had to wait to form a team when some freshmen, who were golfers, came
into the high school that year - so we couldn't play as freshmen ourselves.
So if you want to see how HANDSOME I was back then, you'll have to buy
a copy!

We still haven't really received any snow this "winter" (that doesn't actually
begin until Thursday, Dec. 21). Snow is predicted for Thursday, the first day
of winter, however, with perhaps a couple of inches. I guess that's only fitting
for after the midway point of December. The temperatures may lead to rain
that day too as it is supposed to be above freezing!

I also see where there is a chance for some snow Christmas Eve (Sunday,
Dec. 24). But then I think there's always snow in the forecast Christmas Eve
just to make people happy!

I've had the opportunity to watch several pretty good boys and girls basketball
teams play during this early portion of the season. There may be some
pretty good post season runs in the works! I haven't seen too much wrestling
yet or gymnastics, but there will be some good things ahead in both of these
sports too!

The very mild weather has brought a lot of well lighted areas to life this
Christmas season!

We are happy for our readers to be able to thumb through the pages of this
issue to view photos of a lot of the Christmas and holiday events that have
been going on throughout the area this December. Also we bring you a lot of
Christmas and holiday greetings from area businesses who are happy to have
served you the past year!

I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas!
