Along the Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

I had a real shocker this past week as I was crossing the main street in
Dodgeville. I wasn't at the intersection, so I was just waiting for vehicles to
pass. I wasn't really in a hurry, so when it was clear I was going to cross.
There were at least 5-7 vehicles coming from both directions. After one of
two of them passed by, a driver heading from the north stopped for me to
cross. That prompted a driver from the south to stop too. That first driver,
the one from the north, carried an IOWA license plate on the vehicle!

I have had several people stop for me as I have been illegally crossing the
main street - jay walking! I am just too lazy to walk to the corner when I am
coming out of Cobblestone Coffee House getting my "Mint To Be In The
Chronicle" coffee drink. I appreciate people stopping, but I don't expect them
to!

The Dodgeville Knights Home Talent Baseball Team played another "very
good" game Sunday at Argyle, beating the #6 seeded Beavers 10-1. Number
8 Hollandale beat #5 West Middleton, so that means that the Knights host
Hollandale for the division championship this coming Sunday at 1:00 at Centennial
Park. Who would've ever thought a #7 seed would have a home game
during the divisional playoffs? The winner of Sunday's game (hopefully us!)
will have two home games during the "final four" championships. I used a
celebration photo last week, so here's another one - who says I'm superstitious!!!

This week, starting on Thursday night with the annual Dodgeville Kiwanis
Chicken Barbeque at Harris Park, is Dodgeville Days. There will be businesses
and vendors in the downtown sidewalk area with great deals on Friday
and Saturday. The Dodgeville United Methodist Church is serving ice cream,
root beer floats and food on Saturday! The Farmers Market opens at 8:00
a.m. and there is a Fun Run/Walk starting at 9:00 a.m. at Harris Park, run by
Upland Hills Health.

It's great to see the City of Dodgeville making the step and investing in a
business park area to try and attract new businesses/companies to Dodgeville!
