Hollandale, Argyle pull Home Talent upsets

In what proved to be a Sunday of consistent 'upsets' in the 2017 opening round of Western Section play-offs - the four lowest seeded teams (and all playing on the road') posted unlikely upset wins over higher seeded hosts.
The biggest surprised came when #1 seeded Mount Horeb-Pine Bluff led early but saw an advantage slip away when Hollandale manager Cory Kelly's Rockies rallied for a thrilling 6-4 win for Hollandale baseball fans.
Perhaps just as much - if not more of a surprise was the Argyle Beavers heading into Dane County and returning five hours later to Argyle with a stunning 4-3 win over the Verona Cavaliers.
After trailing early, co-managers Mike Godfrey's and Travis Erickson's Beavers Beavers evened things up at three in the top of the seventh inning by utilizing a sacrifice bunt by Parker Alsteens to push sacross a solo tally.
Then, in the ninth, Alec Treuthart was a part of a wild inning, reaching on an error, advancing on a stolen base and eventually scoring on another Verona error.
Dylan Schwitz had the Beavers' lone extra base hit in the contest (a double) and in total, the Beavers had just four hits but took advantage of three Cavaliers errors
Verona had scored three runs in the second inning, but Argyle players kept things close and hung around until crunch time.
Ryan Erickson earned the win for the Beavers, pitching in relief - and also pitching in the ninth was Lukas Kolasch and Kris Rieder - and it was Rieder who recorded the last out, a strikeout to earn the save.
Kyle Nelson took the loss for Verona after tossing nine innings, and allowing four runs on just four hits, and striking out seven.
Monroe native and 18 year old righthander, Hogan Edwards, started the game on the mound for the Argyle Beavers tossing four and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs, one hit, and striking out four.
Lance Rossing, Edwards, Drew Nafzger, and Schwitz accounted for Argyle's four hits.
In the case of Hollandale's victory, it was Griffin Rear who went 2x4 and his cousin, Jared Rear was 2x5 in a game in which Rockies' players Jared Rear and Tarek Ollerich both smashed doubles.
Mike Schlimgen guided the Rockies through the initial six innings on the mound and earned the vistory and releiver Tnnler Ames picked up the save with five strikeouts among his nine recorded outs.
Skipper Jerome Krantz's Bluffers led early but Hollndale scored a solo run in the fifth to tie the score, then added a pair of tallies in both the fifth and sixth - prior to the host club rallying with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
