Along the Ad Routes

What a game the Dodgeville Knights Home Talent Baseball Team played
against Wiota Sunday, beating the Indians 8-3. Dodgeville came in the #7
seed after needing to win two games last Sunday (and they did to even make
the playoffs). Wiota was a # 2 seed. The Knights played a near perfect game
defensively, with one Wiota runner being tagged out at the plate after a wild
pitch. They had timely hits, with some of the runs being scored after two
were out. This was the way they are capable of playing every game! The
team was pretty happy as shown by some high fives at the end of the game
as they were coming off the field. Front, left to right, are Jordan Larson,
Austin Larson and Mark Ludwig (27). In back are Bill Hellman, Cole Sullivan
and Colton Rikli.

This week is the annual Cobb Corn Roast (Boil). Events begin Wednesday
and culminate on Sunday when there is a chicken barbeque and FREE sweet
corn, a huge parade and a lot of fun. Saturday is the Car Show and Sweet
Corn Eating Contest, two of my favorite events!

I was driving along on Highway 18 West and had my cruise set at 61 MPH
(I know I'm advertising that I am speeding!) What gets me is that two vehicles
passed me - one when I was in the "slow" lane and the other on a "somewhat"
straight stretch (they didn't get back across the middle line before it
became double yellow).

Then I was heading east on US 151 towards Madison and had my cruise
set on 71 (65 MPH zone). Still vehicles passed me by like I was standing
still. Maybe I should get my speedometer checked???!!!

A couple more events going on in the area are: the "Rita Mae Day" in
Montfort benefit on Sunday and Mineral Point's "Paint the Point" most of
the week and into the weekend.

The Dodgeville City Council announced at last week's meeting that a Dollar
Tree Store was coming to Dodgeville this fall being located between
Weaver's Mall and the Dodgeville Armory off Leffler Street near Walmart's
back entrance.

Football scrimmages are this week and that means volleyball scrimmages
are next - it's Fall Sports Season!

It was advertised in the Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce ad and on the
Dodgeville Days poster that the Dodgeville United Methodist Church was
holding a Brat Dinner and Ice Cream Social from 3-7 p.m. on Saturday, August
19. That has been changed to Root Beer Floats from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
and a Cafeteria Supper from 4:30-7 p.m. - all at the church.
