Dodgeville high school's baseball team faced three of the strongest clubs in the area this past week and turned in some good moments but not enough of them to earn a win.
Friday they traveled to McFarland where Braeden Vivian threw five strong innings and left with a 4-1 lead.
But the next two pitchers struggled with their control and an eight run sixth gave McFarland a 9-4 win.
Vivian struck out two, walked one and spaced three hits.
Tanner Bockhop and Riley Glonek finished.
Bockhop walked, advanced on an error and scored on a double by Zack Weber in the third.
The Dodgers added two runs in the fourth on a single by Houston Stanek who then stole second. Cooper Stewart reached on an error and Bockhop ripped a double to bring in both runs.
Glonek singled with one out in the sixth, Gaige Lehman was hit by a pitch. After Bockhop was hit by a pitch, Glonek scored on a fielders choice by Chappell.
Weber was 2x4 with Bockhop, Jack Hellmann, Stanek and Glonek all getting one hit.
Monday Mount Horeb (9-1) handled the Dodgers 12-1, using a 12 hit attack.
The Dodgers scored their lone run in the third when Junior Larson singled, advanced when the ball got past the centerfielder and scored on a single by Caleb Chappell.
Bockhop, Chappell and Glonek all took turns on the mound.
Tuesday, Chas Sagedahl, one of the top pitchers in the SWC, shut out the Dodgers as Prairie du Chien won 10-0.
Vivian and Chappell worked three and two innings for the Dodgers. Both struck out a pair.
Weber led the sticks with a 2x3 day at the plate. One of his hits was a double.
Hellmann and Glonek had the other two Dodgeville hits.
Next for the Dodgers is an away game Friday at Lancaster that has a 5 p.m. start.
Monday they host Iowa-Grant and Tuesday Platteville.
