Pointers refuse to be denied in Panther match

Mineral Point second year volleyball coach Nicole Henke has the right idea about a typical night in the SWAL.
The Pointers faced Iowa-Grant Thursday, a team that head beaten them the prior Saturday in tournament play.
"Thursday night was like any other night in the SWAL confer-ence....tough," Henke said.
Henke was glad her girls were ready to not let a second straight loss to the Panthers happen. And it didn't as the Pointers won 25-14, 16-25, 25-16 and 25-19.
"The Pointer girls came fired up and ready to play the equally led senior IG team that had just beaten them in the championship round at IG's tournament the weekend before," she said.
The Pointers started off well and took the first set, but IG rallied back and took set two.
"We were able to come together with some huge key blocks, and were able to get sets three and four from the Panthers," Henke said. "We need to continue working well together and just taking things one match at a time."
Senior Sydney Staver was a statistic leader with nine kills, seven blocks, two aces and 12 digs.
Jalissa Weier also had nine kills for the Pointers and Alayna McCarville added a pair of ace serves, along with 12 assists.
Elise Ames was the defensive leader with 13 digs.
The match was also purple night and the Pointers raised over $450 for cancer patients at their Fight All Cancer night. Money was raised through the sale of "Fight All Cancer" t-shirts. Players wore special purple jerseys for the match.
The volleyball program would like to thank everyone who purchased shirts and showed their support by wearing purple.
