Panthers back on track, face Pointers Friday

Iowa-Grant's football team did not take the four plus hours return trip from Tomahawk after suffering a loss to an out of state team lightly.
They knew they were better than how they played against their opponent from Michigan and the next time they stepped out on the field they wanted to offer proof.
Mission accomplished.
Friday the Panthers stuck 48 points of the board as they demolished Southwestern 48-6, holding the Wildcats to minus yardage in the process. The Panthers rolled over the turf for 249 yards and 35 attempts and added 81 more via the pass.
"The kids were not happy with the way they played last week," said Panther coach Gary Allen. "They deserve credit for being accountable for correcting their mistakes and committing to their assignments."
Brady Peat put four scores on the board himself, three via the run and one on a 22 yard pass from Caleb Hill. Travis Arndt added a pair of runs for scores and Sawyer Sarbacker rounded it out with one touchdown run.
Peat scored on runs of three, 25 and five yards along with catching the pass. Arndt's tallies were from five and 15 yards out and Sarbacker rolled in from the 20.
The game was four minutes old when Peat scored the first of seven Panther touchdowns. Arndt's first blast came four minutes later.
The last Panther score came with just under three minutes left in the third frame.
Allen said it is nice to have runners who compliment each other.
"Brady is a very hard runner and has good speed in the open field," Allen said. "Travis has embraced the fullback mentality by running hard inside. Sawyer doesn't get many chances but when he does he runs aggressively. All three of them are very willing to block, also."
The fact that the Panthers were able to score at least twice in each of the first three quarters speaks to their consistent performance against the Wildcats.
"A lot of credit for the consistency goes to our blocking," Allen said. "It wasn't just the offensive line as everyone got involved in the blocking. Our backs and receivers are doing their part, too."
"We were far from perfect so we will try to be more consistent in each facet of the game," Allen said as the Panthers prepare for Friday's game at Mineral Point. "There is always room for improvement."
Allen said that credit for the Panthers getting prepared for each contest has to go to the back-ups and the jv, too.
"They give us good looks in practice," he said. "People don't see how hard those kids work each day but without good practices you don't have good games."
The Panthers are 2-0 in the SWAL heading into the Mineral Point game with wins over Boscobel and Southwestern. The Pointers are 0-2 with losses to Darlington and Fennimore. There is a lot riding on this game when it comes to making the play-offs.
"Mineral Point is very well coached and plays hard," Allen said. "We will need to play well."
Panther Notes: Hill was four for 10 for 81 yards and one touchdown.  Peat gained 162 yards on 19 carries and Arndt picked up 43 on seven tries. Clayton Kite caught two passed for 53 yards and Peat one for 22.
