State lines no issue for Panther football

When Riverdale dropped out of the SWAL schedule to play in the Ridge and Valley teams had to scramble to find an opponent and fill the date.
Iowa-Grant's reach was so far that it entered the upper peninsula where it found Lake Linden-Hubbell, Michigan. After discussion it was "Game On."
"We had a hard time finding someone to play," said Panthers coach Gary Allen. "They contacted us because they have a hard time finding 11 man football teams to play in their area of Michigan."
So while the problem was solved in who to play the fact the schools are seven or eight hours apart, a common place was needed.
That place ended up to be Tomahawk, a school in northern Wisconsin--a four hour trip for Iowa-Grant and a three plus hour trip for LLH.
Again...."Game On."
"Tomahawk was good enough to host and they did a great job," Allen said. "It was a good field and they were well prepared to handle it. We were lucky to get to play there and we had a good following of family and fans."
Kick-off was 1 p.m. last Saturday and finished with LLH taking away a 45-15 win.
The first quarter was even, ending in an 8-8 tie. LLH's Hainault picked up the score and Middleton added a two point conversion run.
The Panthers answered when Charles Christianson stepped in from the three. Travis Arndt plunged over for the conversion.
But the second quarter belonged to LLH who put up 20 points and finished their third win in their undefeated season so far.
Before half, Middleton scored again and Hainault punched the ball in twice on runs of 21 and four yards.
LLH added a pair of third quarter scores on runs of one and four by Crouch. The Panthers got their final score of the day on a Caleb Hill to Christianson 25 yard scoring pass. Peat added the conversion.
LLH completed its day with a 21 yard field goal in the fourth quarter by Heikkinen.
Hill finished with six completions in 17 attempts and was intercepted twice. Christianson caught two for 38 yards with Clayton Kite catching one for 12 yards, Brady Peat one for eight, Sawyer Sarbacker one for 10 and Erik Raimer one for two.
Peat gained 116 yards on 18 carries and Arndt followed with nine tries for 80 yards as the leading rushers for the Panthers.
Peat had 13 tackles, Kite 12, Chad Thomas 11 and Arndt 10. Clint Havlik and Sarbacker both added eight with Tommy Reuter stopping seven. Christianson and Erik Raimer both had six.
Allen said as a team the Panthers did not have their best game against LLH.
"That is a very well coached team and they played hard," Allen said. "We did not have the intensity we needed to compete. As a head coach it is my job to get the kids mentally ready."
"Hopefully we realize how important it is to be mentally ready to play," Allen said. "Now we find out if it was a fluke or if it defines who we are."
The Panthers resume SWAL play Friday when they host Southwestern.
"They are young with some good players," Allen said about the Wildcats. "We will have to play well."
