Dodgers blank Black River Falls

One of the points of emphasis for the Dodgeville football team this season is making a team they play work for every score.
That philosophy worked so well last Friday that the Dodgers shut out Black River Falls 14-0 and every time the Tigers got close they were turned away.
"They (BRF) threatened but fortunately they either turned the ball over or we came up with a key play that put them in poor position," said Dodgeville coach Ryan Bohnsack.
Meanwhile the Dodgers were picking up touchdowns in both the second and third quarters that held up for a 14-0 win in the final non-conference game of the season.
Junior Zack Weber took off on a 35 yard scoring run in the second quarter.
Senior quarterback Houston Stanek scored on a keeper from 13 yards away for the score after halftime.
Tanner Bockhop kicked both extra points.
The scores were the result of some key blocking by the Dodgeville offensive line.
"Our line has been working well considering all of the missing players from one week to the next," Bohnsack said. "It takes a determined group of coaches focusing on getting the kids better in practice."
Stanek was six for 17 passing for 66 yards. He was intercepted once. He carried the ball 16 times for 75 yards.
Josh Shepler was his main target with four catches for 45 yards. Jack Hellmann caught one for 13 yards and Michael Mikrut one for 10 yards.
Weber had 137 yards on the ground, carrying the ball 15 times.
Defensively Noah Durst had nine tackles with Stanek and Weber getting eight. Weber had one sack and a tackle for loss. Lance Johnsrud had six tackles including one for a loss while Noah Geisking and Bockhop both had six tackles.
The Dodgers had six tackles for losses, one each by Weber, Johnsrud, Hellmann, Cooper Stewart and Lance U'Ren.
The Dodgers open SWC play Friday by hosting Prairie du Chien. The Blackhawks are a run oriented team that stresses ball control.
"Prairie du Chien is similar to Mineral Point in their powerful running style," Bohnsack said. "We have to be prepared to make tackles with more than one person. I don't know if we have one guy who can bring their backs down one on one."
"If we do our assignments we should be very happy with the results Friday night."
Senior parents will be recognized prior to the game.
