Dodger volleyball trips Lancaster in four

On the night Dodgeville senior Katie Valeria signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Judson University, she led her team to their first SWC win of the young season over Lancaster 3-1.
Valeria rapped down 13 kills and hit seven ace serves and added three blocks and six serve receptions.
Dodgeville stormed to 25-9 and 25-10 wins in the first two games, let up in the third to lose 25-19, but put it away in the fourth 25-20.
Maci Swiggum and Ellie Argall added six and five kills while Marissa Parkin assisted in 29 points.
"It was a good night for us with Katie's ceremony before the match," said Dodgeville coach Scott Garthwaite. "We played very well in the first two games and then we started missing serves in the third one. We did sub some, but give Lancaster credit - they started playing better. We picked it up better in the fourth game."
"It was good to get that first conference win," Garthwaite concluded.
Saturday, the Dodgers went 1-4 in matches at the DeForest Tournament.
They opened with a straight set win over La Crosse Central 25-20, 25-14.
DeForest beat them in close games 25-22 and 25-17.
Then McFarland took them 25-11, 25-12 with Ripon winning 25-21, 25-14 and La Crosse Central coming back for 25-17 and 25-23 wins.
"We were very inconsistent today," Garthwaite pointed out. "DeForest and McFarland are very good teams. We led 22-20 against DeForest, but they served five in a row and when that happened we lost our zip."
"With Kara (Crowley) transferring and Ellie (Argall) taking the ACT, we were a little short on taller players. We couldn't match teams at the net," he added. "We also didn't serve well (29 missed serves) and we struggled with serve receive. We tried different rotations to try and match the other teams, but had a hard time doing that too."
