Dodge-Point teams run well at River Valley


Dodgeville-Mineral Point's boys cross country team finished just three points out of second and took fourth place in the Large School Division of Saturday's River Valley Blackhawk Invitational.
The girls team finished a respectable sixth.
Both runs had 20 teams competing.
Sun Prairie won the boys race easily with 57 points to runner-up Madison La Follette's 134. Dubuque Senior also totaled 134, but took third on the tie breaker.
Dodge-Point hit 137 points with Henry Keith their leading runner in 11th at 17"07. Then came Juan Navarro in 19th at 17:32, Tanner Cullen 30th in 17:49, Isaac Grunow 33rd in 17:52 and Gerrit Bakker 44th in 18:07. The other two varsity finishes were: Brantley Eastman 53rd in 18:21 and Jordan May 74th in 18:56.
"Being only three points out of second was a very good showing for the boys, inspiring them tokeep working hard to improve as the season progresses," said Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraw. "Henry Keith, Juan Navarro, Tanner Cullen and Isaac Grunow all broke the 18-minute mark. We like to see their times continue to drop as they settle into the season. Gerrit Bakker rounded out the scorers."
La Crosse Central senior Sam Pinowski won in 15:44 with River Valley's Dustin Hatfield next in 15:53.
Other team totals were: DeForest 150, McFarland 154, La Crosse Central 208, Platteville 220, Stoughton 233, Sauk Prairie 235, Holman 252, Mauston 297, River Valley 383, Milton 412, Lodi 418, Southwestern 427, Mount Horeb 438, Little Chute 489, Edgerton 542, Richland Center/Ithaca 609.
Other River Valley finishes were: Austin Genthe 58th in 18:33, Michael Orcutt 91st in 19:13, Bailey Amble 115th in 19:54, Beau Gloudeman 117th in 19:55, Gavin Wipperfurth 122nd in 20:19, Dyllan Clary 127th in 20:58.
The Dodge-Point JV also took fourth with 104 pints to winning Madison La Follette's 43, Sun Prairie's 51 and Dubuque Senior's 61.

"Taking 4th was the best a Dodge-Point JV team has ever finished at the race," McGraw pointed out. "The three teams that beat them are all Division 1 schools. We are pleased with how well the JV boys are pushing the varsity to help everyone improve. We have 32 boys out for cross country, our largest number in many years. It is exciting to see how hard everyone is working."
Darlington won the boys Small School race with 41 points to Albany's 117. Iowa-Grant/High-land was 14th at 344.
Finishes for I-G/H were: William McLeer 45th in 19:33, Paul Connolley 58th in 19:49, Easton Dobson 59th in 19:49, Jesse Buroker 82nd in 21:32, Sawyer Dobson 100th in 23:44.
Darlington's Payton Heinberg won the event in 16:53 with Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld's Lucas Caminiti next in 17:05
Dodge-Point had 12 middle school runners competing with Dylan Wasley finishing 7th overall in 10:03.
Other finishes were: Drew Palmer 26th in 10:5, Will Aurit 40th in 10:32, Harrison Hellen 63rd in 11:05, Ethan Rundhaug 69th in 11:24, Austin Phelan 71st in 11:30, Zach Breuerll 74th in 11:34, Sam Sims 109th in 11:49, Gehrig Lawton 119th in 11:54, Tyler Bradley 171st in 13;15, Eamon Stone 185th in 13;48, Riley McSherry 204th in 14:52.
Stoughton won the girls race with 40 points to Dubuque Senior's 88, Stoughton's 126, La Crosse Central's 136, Wisconsin Dells' 150 and Dodge-Point's 192 as the top six.
Then came: DeForest 239, Platteville 243, McFarland 254, Holmen 258, Lodi 279, Mauston 305, Sauk Prairie 306, Little Chute 385, Reedsburg Area 391, Mount Horeb 393, Milton 415, Madison La Follette 472, River Valley 501, Richland Center/Itha-ca 575.
Finishes for Dodge-Point were: Korra Wasley 17th in 20:41, Mackenzie Hall 42nd in 21:43, Lindsay Johnston 45th in 21:52, Claire Baldus 47th in 21:54, Hannah Tremelling 51st in 21:59, Josie Jabs 63rd in 22:17.
"Korra is just learning to pace herself during races," McGraw said. Cassie and Mackenzie ran side by side and Lindsay and Claire also worked together to score for DPCC,"
Wisconsin Dells freshman Laura Beghin won in 18:46 in front of Sun Prairie senior Trista Pringle's 19:07.
Dodge-Point also was sixth in the JV race with 194 pints. Sun Prairie and Dubuque Senior battled it out for first at 29-39. Then came Stoughton 152, La Crosse Central 175 and DeForest 81.
Finishes for Dodge-Point were: Haley May 25th in 23:37, Sydney Judd 33rd in 23:56, Breanna Pearson 50th in 24:34, Abby Thompson 62nd in 24:54, Rachael McGauley 137th in 29:54, Emma Webb 143rd in 31:56.
"The JV girls had another strong showing," McGraw pointed out. "The girls are working hard during workouts and races."
Iowa-Grant/Highland finishes were: Liz Biddick 175th in 26:46, Sam McLeer 200th in 27:21, Julia Cockroft 250th in 29:11, Jamie Dilley 253rd in 29:16.
Dodge-Point had three middle school runners. Finishes were: Lily Wood 89th in 12:08, Allison Solberg 121st in 12;38, Brittany McGauley 197th in 14:52.
"Next week, Saturday, September 17, Dodge-Point runs at the Mount Horeb Viking Invitational at the Nork Golf Club.
"There will be some very good competition at this race," McGraw concluded saying.
