Thanks for the memories

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

There are a couple things that happened this weekend that deserves special mention.
Start with the Iowa County Fair.
This was year number 160 of it being held at its home in Mineral Point. The event draws people of all ages and allows our youth to realize their dreams in learning competition.
A few years ago discussion was held on the future of fairs in Wisconsin and some painted a dim picture. All that did was get fair boards to dig in their heels and make the event bigger and better.
Our fair is a real testimony to agriculture and the Fair Board along with all the supporters deserve our appreciation and thanks for a job well done.
The second thing took place in the small Iowa County village of Avoca. With the tune "Thanks for the Memories" streaming through the Avoca park Cheryl Baxter walked her mother, Betty Hayes Baxter, to the pavillion that was christened Betty Hayes Baxter Dance Pavillion in Betty's honor.
This is Betty's 70th year of teaching dance to the youth of this area.
That's right....70 Years!!
Stop and think of the number of people the Iowa County Fair and Betty Hayes have touched over the years.
Too many to count, that is for sure.
"Thanks for the Memories" seems appropriate for both.
