playing at Jacksonville. The Jaguars are supposed to be an up and coming
team in their division and the Packers are supposed to win theirs. Well, the
Packers played a pretty good game, as did the Jags. The Packers had to hold
on for a 27-23 win though. They stopped the Jags on a fourth down play right
at the end of the game on about the 12 yard line. It was a great defensive
play! There were a couple of great offensive plays by the Pack too. Aaron
Rodgers threw a touchdown pass (that was a seed) with a Jacksonville player
tugging at his jersey - and Davante Adams made a tremendous catch on the
other end with the ball being thrown where he was the ONLY one who could
have a chance to catch it. Great opening day win!

I won't say that Aaron Rodgers was a little rusty in this his first game, but
he did have seven incomplete passes in a row - something he usually doesn't
do! A lot of NFL teams play their starting quarterback a pretty good amount
in the pre-season games, but the Packers don't. In fact, Rodgers didn't even
see the field in their final pre-season encounter. Just my observation!

The UW Badgers sure rolled over the University of Akron Saturday. The
Badgers are ranked #10, maybe a little too high in my mind at this point in
the season, but their opening win over LSU a week ago was huge when pretty
much nobody gave them a shot. They ran and passed well against Akron and
played defense well too!

This weekend was great weather wise. Jonesdale held their annual Field
Days and it was great for the trap shooters, slow pitch players, kids doing
games and the chicken BBQ eaters.

The Milwaukee Bucks touring group stopped in Dodgeville Friday afternoon
at the BMO Harris Bank parking lot. The youngsters sure did have a
good time (as did some older kids and parents) getting autographs from #1
draft pick Thon Maker. The Bucks group included dancers and the Mascot
(Bango). There was a lot of interaction between all the staff and those attending.
Above, a couple of youngsters try to learn how to spin a basketball on
their fingers!

This Sunday is the 15th Annual DASFI (Dodgeville Area Scholarship
Foundation) golf outing. We should have a full house of 36 teams - that means
144 golfers. It's a great time to get together and swap "old" stories and create
new friendships from the younger golfers to the older ones. There will be
plenty of prizes given out and hopefully a lot of money raised that will go
into the scholarship fund for DHS graduating seniors. Last year over $38,000
was given out to graduates! Even if you aren't golfing, just stop out and talk
with some of the people you may not have seen in years and stay for the
awards and fun afterwards!

You can't really count on the weather forecasters, but there is a chance of
rain on Friday into Saturday, but Sunday looks like it will be a fantastic day!

And to all you Iowa County Fair goers - any mistakes in last week's photo
pages in either the Chronicle or Democrat - are on me only! I understand I
blew a few names.
