Two SWC titles for D-P


Dodgeville-Mineral Point boys and girls cross country teams were crowned SWC champions Thursday at River Valley.
The boys team had all five scorers place in the top 10 and took care of runner-up Platteville 31-49.
The girls had their top five all place in the top 12 and also got by Platteville 42-55.
Junior Juan Navarro led the D-P boys finishing 3rd in 16:49.
He was followed in the next two spots by freshman Henry Keith 4th in 16:56 and junior Isaac Grunow 5th in 17:04.
Senior Tanner Cullen placed 9th in 17:40 and sophomore Gerrit Bakker was 10th in 17:45 to round out the scoring.
Junior Brantley Eastman captured 13th in 17:51 and fellow junior Jordan May was 15th in 17:58.
"It was exciting to see the boys run so well as they claimed the conference title," said Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraw."The boys have been working hard all year long and we are happy to see them win conference."
"Juan Navarro was the top runner for DPCC placing 3rd overall. He is such a strong runner who improves all season long.
"Henry Keith placed 4th, a freshmen who has made great contributions to the team.
"Isaac Grunow placed 5th and had one of his best races of the year. It was so exciting to see the three come in one after another.
"Tanner Cullen placed 9th and gaining more confidence with each race and has only scratched the surface of his potential.
"Garret Bakker placed 10th and we are so grateful he came out for cross country and helped the team do so well.
"Brantley Eastman placed 13th and he is also new to cross country and has been a great asset.
"Jordan May placed 15th and rounded out the varsity team by running very well."
River Valley took third as a team with 72 points with senior Dustin Hatfield leading the entire pack in 16:13.
Then came Austin Genthe 7th in 17:16, Michael Orcutt 18th in 18:09, Logan Weiss 22nd in 18:27, Bailey Amble 24th in 18:49, Beau Gloudeman 25th in 18:53, Devan Alt 26th in 18:58.
The other team scores were: Lancaster 94, Richland Center/Itha-ca 137, Prairie du Chien 170.
In the boys JV race, with only two schools fielding teams, Dodge-Point beat Platteville 15-42, having the first five finishers.
Adam Phillips led the field in 18:05, followed by Dylan McGraw in 18:14, Will Borne-Mumm in 18:29, Luke Davis in 1837, John Phelan in 18:43.
Declan McGraw took 10th in 19:32 and Clay Venden was 11th in 19:35.
Other D-P finishes were: Grant James 15th in 19:35, John Davis 16th in 19:37, Grant Lawton 21st in 20:00, Nathan Grunow 24th in 20:20, Connor Trocke 25th in 20:36, Owen Miller 26th in 20:49, Will Kramer 28th in 21:20, Gabe Hart 29th in 21:25, Riley Hall 32th in 22:14, Kevin Eisenzimmer 34th in 22:22, Brandon Molldrem 35th in 2:49, Tate Jewell 39th in 24:25, Dylan Roen 40th in 24:40, Devin Bricco 42nd in 25:19, Samuel Angel 4"4th in 27:53.
The JV boys had the first five runners for the JV team for a perfect 15 score," McGraw pointed out. These runners were Adam Phillips, Dylan McGraw, Will Borne-Mumm, Luke Davis and John Phelan. The other runners on the team in order of finishing were Declan McGraw, Clay Venden, Grant James, John Davis, Grant Lawton, Nate Grunow, Conner Trocke, Owen Miller, Will Kramer, Gabe Hart, Riley Hall, Kevin Eisenzimmer, Brandon Molldrem, Tate Jewell, Dylan Roen, Devin Bricco, and Samuel Angel. Injured this season and not able to run conference were Noah Blalock and David Nagel.
"The JV boys helped push the varsity runners all season long to help them become better.
"A special thank you to the senior boys: Tanner Cullen, Luke Davis, Declan McGraw, John Davis, Conner Trocke."
All-Conference selections for the D-P boys were: 1st team-Juan Navarro, Henry Keith, Isaac Grunow; 2nd team-Tanner Cullen, Garret Bakker, Brantley Eastman
Senior Mackenzie Hall led the Dodge-Point girls taking 4th overall in 20:15. Freshman Korra Wasley was right behind her in 5th at 20:20.
Then came three sophomores in Lindsay Johnson 10th in 20:53, Hannah Tremelling 11th in 20:56 and Josie Jabs 12th in 20:57.
The varsity was rounded out with sophomore Cassie McGraw 17th in 21:15 and senior Claire Baldus 25th in 22:05.
McGraw talked about his team saying, "It was wonderful to see the girls win the conference title. They had a tough race but stayed focused and moved up throughout the race to claim the victory."
"Mackenzie Hall finished 4th place overall for her best race of the year. Her leadership this year has been phenomenal. Korra Wasley finished 5th, and as a freshmen has come in and really helped the team by just taking care of business. Lindsay Johnston finished 10th, she decided to join the team this year and has gotten steadily better all season long to finish her best race of the year. Hannah Tremelling finished 11th gaining confidence and improving each race. Josie Jabbs finished 12th and rounded out the scorers by putting a good surge on the second half of the race to move up and finish well. Cassie McGraw finished 17th and it was great to see her run so well. Claire Baldus was 25th and she rounded out the varsity team with a great effort."
Lancaster sophomore Lydia Murphy was the individual winner in 19:05.
The rest of the team scores were: Lancaster 58, Prairie du Chien 90, River Valley 135, Richland Center/Ithaca 152.
River Valley results were: Tiffany Limmex 15th in 21:08, Kiley Brownlee 16th in 21:13, Lexi Cummings 31st in 23:08, Dakota Fingerhut 35th in 24:07, Ashley Gilbeck 38th in 24:45, Tasha Limmex 39th in 25:32, Lexi Lewis 40th in 25:37.
Lancaster won the JV race over Dodge-Point 28-39 with Platteville also fielding a team and scoring 55 points.
Finishes for Dodge-Point were: Abby Thompson 4th in 22:49, Haley May 6th in 22:58, Alyssa Peterson 8th in 23:08, Breanna Pearson 10th in 23:15, Sydney Judd 11th in 23:21, Macy Ahrens 20th in 27:07, Rachael McGauley 21st in 27:41, Emma Webb 25th in 29:02.
The girls JV team gave a good effort to place 2nd," McGraw said..
"The top five runners were Abby Thompson, Haley May, Alyssa Sullivan, Breanna Pearson, and Sydney Judd. The other runners on JV included Macy Ahrens, Rachael McGauley, Emma Webb. Injured this season and not able to participate in conference were Drew Sandstrom and Avery Peterson.

Named to the All Conference team were: 1st team-Mackenzie Hall, Korra Wasley; 2nd team-Lindsay Johnston, Hannah Tremelling, Josie Jabbs.
"We look forward to the Sectional Meet in Platteville at the Veterans Memorial Park on the UW-Platteville Campus on Saturday, October 22 with the boys running at 11:00 AM, followed by the girls at 11:45 AM," McGraw said. "We hope to see a big crowd cheering the teams."
The top two teams and 5 top individuals move on to the state meet.
