Dodgers finish season strong vs Hornets

There would be no playoffs on the line or to prepare for when Dodgeville headed to Richland Center for their SWC final game Friday but there still was pride at stake.
The Dodgers proved they were close to a playoff contender with a 48-7 win over the Hornets with senior quarterback Houston Stanek playing his final game in fine fashion.
Stanek threw for 266 yards completing 11 of 17 passes and ran for 128 more, keeping the ball 13 times. Five of his completions went for touchdowns.
Sophomore Joey Recob grabbed a pass that resulted in a 15 yard touchdown to open scoring and Tanner Bockhop's conversion kick made it a 7-0 first quarter.
The Dodgers then exploded for 28 second quarter points that all but put the game out of reach.
Recob's three yard run started it and was followed with a 65 yard pass play from Stanek to Jack Hellmann.
Noah Johnson got Richland Centers lone score next on a 44 yard run but the Dodgers got right back at it.
Stanek rifled a pass to Josh Shepler for a 55 yard score then hit Mike Mikrut from 10 yards out.
Logan U'Ren scored on an 11 yard pass from Stanek to open the scoring in the third. Lance Johnsrud finished the scoring for the Dodgers with a 17 yard scamper.
Bockhop kicked four extra points and the Dodgers ran for a two pointer courtesy of U'Ren.
Besides Stanek's leading rushing Recob picked up 91 yards on 18 carries and Josh Shepler had one run for 70 yards. The Dodgers totaled 505 yards for the game
Shepler, Mikrut, Recob, Hellmann Recob and U'Ren all had catches for the Dodgers. Hellmann's catch was for 78 yards, Recob's had one for 73 and Shepler grabbed his for 68. Mikrut's grab was for 14 yards and U'Ren's was for 10.
Defensively David McGuire recovered a pair of fumbles for the Dodgers and picked off a pass for an interception. U'Ren also picked off a Hornets pass.
Defensively Johnsrud got into the Hornet backfield for three tackles for losses. U'Ren, Jonathan Geisking and Cooper Stewart each had one tackle for loss.
The Dodgers finished the season with a 5-4 overall record and were 2-3 in the SWC.
