Dodgers bow out to Platteville

Dodgeville went down fighting Tuesday night in first-round Division 2 volleyball play at Platteville.
They had the Lady Hillmen on the ropes with a 2-1 game lead, but couldn't finish and lost in five.
Platteville won the first set 25-12, but the Dodgers regrouped and won the next two 25-15, 25-18.
Then the roof caved in diring the fourth game as Platteville won 25-10.
The fifth set was tied 10-10, but Platteville served out for a 15-10 win.
"We were up 7-2 at one point in the fifth," said Doder coach Scott Garthwaite. "Then Platteville just started hammering the ball and we couldn't respond."
He said, "This was by far the best overall match we have played this season. We were clicking. I don't know what happened, but I'd rather go out this way than getting really pounded in three."
Senior hitter Katie Valeria, who will play next year at Judson University, finished the night with 25 kills. Kelsey Anderson had eight and Ellie Argall 4.
Marissa Parkin had 31 assists and added 17 digs. Sara Mae Polinag and Argall both added 14.
Anderson blocked three shots and she and Argall both served four aces.
"Kelsey really stepped up tonight and played well," Garthwaite said.
The Dodgers finished the season 12-15 overall and 5-5 in the SWC conference.
