Late pass gives MHB key win in Badger North

Baraboo has only put one win on the board this season but Friday they went toe to toe with one of the
Badger North's best, leading Mount Horeb/Barneveld until the last 1:29 of the game.
But the Vikings were not in the mood to run up the white flag and put together a late drive that ended
with a two yard toss-Clint Murray to Mitch Ryan-that sealed the 19-14 win.
The Vikings sailed to a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter thanks to a scoring run and a scoring
pass. Brady Gassman, MHB's junior running back, stepped in from five yards out and Cris Petrussi
kicked the conversion for a 7-0 lead. Before the quarter ended Murray hit Jackson Rose with a pass that totaled 45 yards and pushed the score to 13-0/
But the second quarter was all Thunderbirds. Noah Larson raced in from the 16 and before the half
Tom Ginther passed 13 yards to Spencer Klemm for a second score. Victor Riccardi's two conversion kicks gave the Thunderbirds a 14-13 advantage.
It stayed that way until the fourth quarter.
The Vikings were in the middle of a scoring drive when came close to ending on a Baraboo
interception. But the grab was nullified on a roughing the passer penalty, giving the Vikings one more chance.
They made the best of it when Murray guided the Vikings to the two. From there he connected with
Mitch Ryan from the two for the winning score with 1:29 left.
Murray was 12 for 25 passing for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Rose caught four for 91, Ryan four for 33, Gassman one for eight, Malik Winston one for two and Trey Laube two for 27.
Winston ran 20 times for 104 yards and Gassman picked up 75 on nine carries. Murray gained 43 on 11 tries with Rose gaining 14 on three carries.
Gassman had a dozen tackles for the Vikings with a sack and two and a half tackles for losses. Cam Krantz totaled nine with one and a half tackles for loss. Scott Hall also had nine tackles.
Ryan Kratochwill, Travis Klassy and Bama Doyle all had interceptions.
The Vikings are 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Badger North. They are at Reedsburg Friday.
