Arrows stay perfect with win over Dodgers


Dodgeville's football team had no fear in choosing SWC power Lancaster for its homecoming/hall of fame night opponent and while they didn't win they did put out a good effort against the Flying Arrows.
But in the end the Arrows turned a 21-6 halftime lead into a 42-12 final behind a mammoth performance from quarterback Evan Straka.
Straka scored on runs of 12, 54 and nine yards then completed a pass to Josh Hentrich that went for 51 yards to lead the Arrows currently ranked third in the state in Division 5. Lancaster is undefeated on the season at 8-0.
Evan Gates scored twice for the Arrows plunging in from the four and the two yard lines.
Straka and Gates both scored in the first quarter and Gates got in again in the second frame.
Straka scored again in the third then put in two fourth quarter touchdowns at 11:52 and 9:46.
Tanner Oyen kicked all six extra points.
The Dodgers used sophomore Joey Recob's speed as he scooted. in from the 30 and the seven for the dozen Dodgeville points. His scores can 22 seconds into the second quarter and midway through the third, making the score 21-12 at that point.
Houston Stanek went to the airways 28 times and connected on 10 of his attempts for 131 yards. He was intercepted once.
Jack Hellman grabbed four passes for 40 yards, Logan U'Ren two for 46, Josh Shepler two for 19, Lance Johnsrud one for 30 and Recob one for no gain.
Recob picked up 38 yards on five tries. Shepler ran once for 37, Noah Durst six for 11 yards with Johnsrud carrying once and Stanek 11 times.
Shepler had an interception for the Dodgers.
The Dodgers had 186 yards in total offense to Lancaster's 452.
The Dodgers close out their season at Richland Center Friday. The Dodgers are 4-4 overall, 1-3 in the SWC. Richland Center is 0-8, 0-4.
