Thumbs up, thumbs down

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

This week we will focus on thumbs up and thumbs down.
THUMBS UP
-Random acts of kindness.
The Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce performed some during Small
Business Saturday which kicked off the holiday shopping season. Hopefully
the acts were enjoyed and will be adopted by everyone if we are going to
change the country's climate. Change has to start somewhere so why not
here?
-Wiegel Strong Foundation
You would be hard pressed to find someone who impacted as many lives
than impacted by Luke Wiegel. Tuesday night when the Darlington girls basketball
team took on Dodgeville funds were raised for the foundation that
gives to worthwhile projects in need in Luke's memory. Luke grew up in
Darlington then taught and coached in Dodgeville. He was one of the great
ones and is truly missed.
-School report cards
The schools of Iowa County all received passing grades and Mineral Point
scored 5 stars...the highest ranking possible. Our kids deserve quality education
and it seems that is happening.
-The people and organizations who help
While there is more going on to help people during the holiday season there
is still a good number that help all year long. That is how it should be.
-Iowa County broadband
Thanks to the Iowa County board for having the initiative to be the first
county in Wisconsin to start getting the rural areas connected to the internet.
Hopefully other counties will follow. Nice to be first sometimes.
THUMBS DOWN
-The Wisconsin presidential election recount.
While it is a right given by the constitution and the laws do we really think
Jill Stein could raise more money for this than she did for the actual election?
And when did Wisconsin become a state known for its dishonesty? I would
have liked to see the. money go to needy people and organizations that make
sure people are clothed, fed and taken are of.
-Fake news
When your profession is reporting news and telling the truth it is appalling
to see things that are in the same category as crap on blogs and social media.
It is hard to believe people believe the worst when a source that does not
have paid people doing the information gathering involved. Some of the
things on Facebook before the election were enough to give me a sore neck
from shaking my head.
