Highland girls topple Fennimore

Highland's post player on the girls basketball team showed off her inside skills Tuesday night in the opening game of the new season.
Junior Kylie Esser had 23 of Highland's 50 points, two less than half, to lead the Cardinals over SWAL entry Fennimore 50-38.
Esser took advantage of a good share of Fennimore's 27 fouls and buried 15 of 18 free throws. She went 10 for 12 the second half.
Esser, who stands all of 5'8", worked her way around a pair of six footers on the Lady Golden Eagle side. She also posted up a lot.
"Kylie had a huge game for us. She made great penetration," said Highland coach Josh Tarrell.
He said he felt the girls played a good first game and was pleased with the way his team rotated on defense, especially in the first half - when they held Fennimore to nine points.
"We got a little complacent in the second half," he added. "We're stil learning how to finish games.
Tarrell said he was also pleased with the minutes he got out of two freshmen, Carlee Kosharek and Megan Mueller.
The Cardinals travel to Iowa-Grant for another con-conference contest Monday night.
