Panther bats take off in win over Fennimore

Iowa-Grant's bats were in slumber mode for almost half their game at Fennimore Monday but it turned into long ball time as the Panthers dropped the Golden Eagles 6-1 in SWAL softball action.
Malory Peat proved to be the igniter with her two run home run in the fourth. She sent in Jess Pleumer, who ran for winning pitcher Maranda McCarthy after she walked.  Her blast cleared the left field fence.
Kristin Bingham followed with a single then raced home as Laura Winkler banged out an rbi triple.
That made the score 3-1.
Peat played a role in Iowa-Grant's three run sixth as she singled. Bingham then collected her second single and freshman Lexi Busse more than cleared the fences for a three runs shot that proved to put the game on ice.
McCarthy then finished her complete game effort with six hits, one run, four strikeouts and two walks.
Fennimore scored their lone run in the first and their 1-0 advantage held up until the fourth.
Isabel Glasbrenner doubled and came home on an rbi single by Cali Streif.
Whitney Winkers took the loss for Fennimore. She gave up nine hits, six runs while fanning nine and walking one.
Streif was 2x4 for Fennimore and Glasbrenner had a double.
Peat was 2x4 with a home run for the Panthers while Peat and Winkler were 2x3. Winkler had a triple and Busse a home run.
"After the third inning we played very well," coach Deanna Fulton said. "We had to many strikeouts early and didn't put the ball in play. But when Malory hit her home run things took off. That was a big hit."
