Hawks hold on to tip Dodgers in extra innings

Three hits in the top of the ninth inning Friday plated a run that held up in River Valley's 5-4 extra inning win over Dodgeville in SWC play.
The loss dropped the Dodgers to 3-3 in conference play while River Valley improved to 5-2.
Dayne Leonard, who got the starting call as catcher for the Blackhawks, singled with one out but was forced at second on a fielders choice that put Ryan Wickman on first. Derek Bodendein then found a hole for a single that sent Wickman to third. Cole Mahoney then sent a single to the outfield to score Wickman.
Wickman had performed some strong defense earlier in the game when he gunned a Dodger runner at the plate in the first inning.
Elijah Alt, the third pitcher coach Bob Wickman sent to the mound, finished as the winner after six innings of work.
The Hawks scored in the first when Wickman singled with one out, stole second, got to third on a wild pitch and scored on a balk.
The Dodgers matched the run in the second as Tanner Bockhop reached on a fielders choice, took second when Zack Weber coaxed a walk and scored on a bases loaded walk.
Dodgeville went up 3-1 in the third when Jordan Larson singled to lead off the inning, got to second on a hit by Jack Hellmann and third when Cole Sullivan reached on ball four. Weber then singled to center to send in Olson and Hellmann.
River Valley started creeping back with a run in the sixth. Derek Bodendein singled and stole second then took third on Mahoney's single. Alt sent in Bodendein with a grounder to the right side.
The Hawks took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh. With one out Bailey Amble singled followed by a walk to Leonard. Amble stole third and Leonard took second on a wild pitch. With two outs an infield error let Amble and Leonard score.
The Dodgers forced extra innings with a run in the seventh to tie it at 4-4. Jordan Larson singled, took second on a sacrifice by Hellmann and scored when Sullivan hit a drive to deep left that went for an rbi double.
After the Hawks scored in their half of the ninth the Dodgers took advantage of two errors to get Sullivan and Weber to second and third. But Alt got all three outs of the ninth via strikeouts to end the game.
Alan Spurley started for the Hawks but lasted only an inning and a third. He gave up two hits, walked four and was charged with one run.
Matthew Yanke worked 1 2/3 and left after giving up three hits and two runs. He struck out two and walked two.
Alt closed it out by spacing four hits and giving up one run. He fanned seven and did not issue a walk.
Mahoney was 3x5 while Bodendein and Amble went 2x4 for River Valley.
