Along the Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

I guess those "orange" flags are on the street corners downtown for a reason.
Saturday I was approaching the corner beside BMO Harris Bank coming
from the west and a young lady was at the corner looking to cross heading
towards Cobblestone Court. She waited for four vehicles to go by her without
stopping before there was a window of traffic for her to cross. I saw her at
church Sunday and told her I was observing the "rude" drivers not stopping.
I also said I almost rolled down my window to yell out "grab an orange flag
and they'll surely stop!".

I had gone into Cobblestone for a "Mint To Be in The Chronicle" specialty
coffee drink and came out and J-walked across to my car. For some unknown
reason, vehicles stopped for me even though I wasn't in the intersection
(where I should've been). Somebody mentioned to me that most drivers
around here stop for me no matter where I am just so they don't get their
name in the Chronicle!

We have quite the area high school golfer in Argyle/Pecatonica's Mitchell
Steiner. He must be averaging under par for all the SWAL meets he had
played in. That should make him a pretty good prospect to do very well at
state. Good Luck to him and his team as well as all the area golfers!

I watched James Hahn win the Wells Fargo PGA Golf Tournament in one
extra hole Sunday. He is an American as is the runner-up, Roberto Castro.
My guy - Phil Mickelson - was fourth. There were six Americans in the top
eight.

The Dodgeville Knights Home Talent Baseball Team won Sunday at West
Middleton and start the season 2-0 with both wins coming on the road. They
open their home Sunday season this coming Sunday against Wiota with a
1:00 p.m. start. I will more than likely be in the concession stand! Stop up
and enjoy some "hometown baseball"!

Last Friday night was the annual Dodgeville Relay For Life at Harris Park.
That's a huge fundraiser in the attempt to fight cancer. There have been a lot
of strides made in the right direction in that fight. Hopefully there is more to
come and soon! The above photo shows one of the booths at the relay.

This Saturday is the annual Uplands Garden Club's plant sale inside Ley
Memorial Pavilion at Harris Park in Dodgeville. If you want to see or buy
what the area's Master Gardeners have to offer, stop by - but you have to be
there early to get the best ones!

I had a call from son Michael Sunday. All is going well with him (and wife
Jolisa) except they have been trying to buy a house and the ones they want
get bought out from under them!
